78 Wagon running way too rich.
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:51:13 AM »
My carb is running way too rich and it drains down within a day after shutting it off.  I have put a carb kit in it and all was good for about a week. I am suspecting that the rubber in the kit was old, the power valve is leaking. Has anyone else had this problem? If it is the power valve does anyone know of a source for a new carb kit?  Thanks in advance.

Also had this problem do you have a Motorcraft carb on it?

If yes make sure the float is dry set at 7/16 from the top

Make sure you did not tighten the power valve to tight (it would crush the gasket)

Also make sure you put in the retainer spring on the float (if you had one) This helps with vibration and driving on slopes

Don't buy bluestreak brand kits they did not last long for me

I buy my kits from DaytonaParts.c om there kits are ethanol resistant and for modern fuel some kits have a kevlar additive in them (stuff bullet proof vests are made of)

Look them up

Interesting, my cars been hard to start lately if I dont drive it every day. I was blaming it on the hot weather we were having. But its not dropped a lot in mpg so I dont believe that the power valve is leaking again.

I  might try to check the float dry drop. Can you give a run down on how to do it? When I put in my rebuild kit last time it was the first time I ever had a gas leak out of the carb in all the years I owned my car (26 years) I really fought the float to get it to stop. Maybe its  all out of range.
