72 pinto disc brake rotors
« on: May 15, 2017, 01:27:08 PM »
would like to change the 4 lug rotors on my 72 to 5 lug with a 4 1/2 inch bolt circle.  is there a direct replacement where everything stays the same except the lug pattern. looking to reuse the same bearings and seals and calipers. hopefully if there is some they wont shove the wheels out any further either. also would  like to lower the front of the car a little. anybody make lowered springs or dropped spindles or just cut a coil till I get it where I want it?  all help appreciated, first time messin with a 72 pinto

I don't have a direct answer but I can tell you that the 71-73 rotors are hard to find.., and not cheap (near $150 ea.).  So, the likelihood that you will find them in 5x4-1/2 are pretty small. Hopefully someone can fill you in on the workarounds. I'm not sure if 74-up spindles will work with the earlier arms. There is a plethora of Mustang II stuff out there for 74-up cars.

With all the oddities of the 71-73 cars I think I'd start with a 74-75 car and just adapt the smaller bumpers such as was done here http://www.joe-escobar.com/pinto.html (see middle of the article) . I think in the long run a person would be better off.

Any good machinist would be able to drill new holes. Might have to weld up a hole or two but no big deal. Same thing in the rear. Problem is few want to do it due to getting sued when the rework fails. Be happy with what you got.

I think Granada and a few other common Ford rotors will fit on the spindle, they're just too large in diameter. Maybe they could be turned-down?

Check Ebay for the parts you need. I've seen dropped spindles and you might find rotors too.
