Title: Pinto Wheel -- Please help me identify!
Post by: CouldBYurz on February 25, 2013, 11:57:48 AM
Hello Everyone,

Please help me ID the pictured set of Ford Pinto wheels. I am a "picker" and found these at an estate.

I stumbled across this site and figure someone here would be able to help me fill in my details. These are OEM Ford 13" wheels (13 x 5.5) with the lace design. I've seen these called Rallye wheels and believe they are for later model Pintos and possibly Mustangs. The wheels appear in great shape, though the pony center caps show some discoloration and damage. Marking inside wheel says: B-D5ZA-1007-CA.

I'd appreciate if anyone can confirm the model years, compatible makes/models and any other details on this. Also, what would you suggest as fair price for these OEM wheels and center caps. i was originally going to put them on eBay, but would prefer to offer them to Pinto Club members since I found this site.

Thanks for reading this far and I appreciate any help you can give me.

Bruce

Mustang II optional wheel, usually found on Ghia's and Cobra II's. Pinto's would not have the running horse center cap but either a pinto kicking foal cap or the red "bull's eye" cap.

P.S. The center caps are pretty well shot as the red has faded to white.

Yeah, mostly found on Mustang IIs... sometimes they were color keyed for the Ghia models. I'm sporting a set on my Squire wagon Moxie BluBelle. Hers are the chamois colored ones off a '78 Ghia dark brown with chamois vinyl-top.

Don't throw the center caps away! If you don't want them, I'll take them, faded or not!  :)

Thanks for the comments. The guy I bought these from said they were from a Pinto, though it seems like there is some mixing and matching, especially the center caps.

I was hoping that the inside markings and 13x5.5 wheel size could point to what specific model and years these wheels could work with. I have found some sites that sell old stock wheels, but haven't found a definitive list of what models these wheels would fit.

Any thought on what a fair value is for these wheels and center caps? Since shipping would be costly, I may need to try and sell them locally. (I'm in southern California.)

Thanks,
Bruce

Here's a set still on the rear of my '80. They fit perfect & look good. As for a value, I've seen em sell for 60 bucks a set at swap meets. Mine were on a Pinto I scrapped out.

I was looking something else up in my '79 dealer brochure and found that apparently they DID offer lacy spoke aluminum wheels.  :D

Yup, seen them in my 80 brochure as well... With some ugly plain caps.. No red or pony at all.
