Welcome to the site Gary.  Unfortunately not much interchanges between the 2.0 & 2.3 engines including the distributors.  Even the oil pump drive shaft is a different size.  I have read some of the 1974 2.3's came with point style distributors, if you can find one.  I prefer the electronic distributors for their low maintenance.

My 74 came with points, I changed over but I believe I still have it I'll have to look in a while.

The Point distributor was only for one year , 74 , the later ones were all electronic, easy to find , check on the ford Rangers with the 2.3 , very reliable ,  and ones that want to convert the early 2.0 to electronic on the cheap go to a you pull it yard and find a 78 up Volvo 240 and pull the whole Bosch ign system , take the guts out and install it in the ford 2.0 Bosch dist, yep the take the same cap and rotor button , and take to coil also , these were very reliable ,  and those who want a electronic for the old 1600 go find a 78 Ford Fiesta , it also has a nice carb set up for more ponys ,

74 PintoWagon, if you want to sell it I'm buying!! give me a price and shipping to 93516. maybe i should of given a little more info on my post. i am going to build a 1923 Model T C-Cab pick up truck using the running gear from a '74 wagon 2.3. it will be all fiberglass, as i have the molds for all of the body parts and box, i found some Shay wire wheels too!! it will be a Shay Model T in essence, which they never made and should get some good arguments from people. anyway, what i want to do is put a Pertronix in the point dizzy. i have had one in my '53 Henry J Kaiser for about 25 years with never any problems. in contrast, i have had 2 of the ford ignition boxes go out and leave me stranded.

Heck you can have it I got no use for it, you're not that far from me ever come out or know anyone that come to Parker/Havasu???, save on the ride??... Sounds like a cool project you're doing there, I've had nothing but bad luck too with those boxes, in the pinto I used a Duraspark distributor with an HEI module works great.

well that's a hoot 74 PintoWagon! my brother lives in Kingman, Az. i'll ask him but it will be up to him when he can stop by. he also has a house in Hemet, Ca and he spends most of his time there. it would probably be quicker just to mail it. either way, thanks a lot.   Gary
p.s. i have never been to your area but i may have to go now.  did they ever get their race track up and running?

No prob Gary, I can ship it if you want just thought I'd put it out there. It's really nice here on the river. Don't know what's going with the track now, haven't talked to anyone in a while about it I'll have to check on it.
