Pinto engine trans question

I have a low mileage Pinto with an excellent engine with only 39000 miles. The body of the car is totally shot. I had the engine running yesterday, very sweet. Anyway I am contemplating removing said engine and trans from the car for reuse at a later time. Does the trans fluid have to be drained to remove the engine/trans assy? Any shortcuts others have used to remove engines in the past? The car is a 1980 2.3l, C-3 trans. How can you store an engine/trans. I would leave it in the car but I am needing the room.

If you have a plug you can place in the tailshaft then you should be ok without draining the fluid. When you store the engine make sure all the ports are sealed up so that moisture & dirt doesn't get in & rust it. It's not required but I think it's a good idea. If you unbolt the transmission from the rear mount & the engine from the front mounts you should be able to pull it as a unit.

You could also remove the yoke from the driveline and use it to plug the transmission. Just secure it real good so it doesn't get pulled out.
