Pinto brake swap question

I just bought a 72 Pinto trunk car that needs some brake work. Ive had some trouble finding the rear wheel cylinders for the 72. I found a 79/80 model Pinto in a local salvage yard it has power brakes that I thought about swapping into the 72 along with the rear end. So will the booster bolt into the 72 and is there any benefit from the later rear end? Thanks for any help

RockAuto and NAPA both offer replacement cylinders, see links.  Get the cylinders for rear with a 23/32" bore (7/8" is for the station wagon rear, 1" is for the front).

FYI, the 74-80 rears have a larger hub than the 71-72 models (not sure about 73's).  If you are using the stock 1972 steel wheels that use the center hole for location, they will not fit over the larger hub of the 74-80 axle.  I suspect you could swap axles and drums, but have not tried it.

The axles are different from a 73 to a 78!! Found out the hard way! The mounts rhhild the axles in, bolt holes are in different spots! Good luck

71-73 rear wheel cylinders differ from 74-up versions & carry different part numbers. I found a pair of NOS wheel cylinders for my 71 for $40 so I bought them but haven't installed them yet so I'm not sure of all the differences but I do know there are some.

Looking at the parts catalogs and Ford manuals, it looks like the late models use the larger cylinder that was used on the early station wagons.  These larger cylinders also have a larger thread size.
