Pinto 2300 ignition change
« on: February 03, 2018, 12:48:37 PM »
I have a 1980 Pinto with the 2300 standard engine.  This engine has the electronic ignition, what do I need to do, or what do I need, to change this back to the point/condenser system?  I do have another distributor from a 1974 2300 engine, will this work and if so what else do I need,  Wes Jones, Cle Elum, WA

WHY? The electronic ignition off the late model Pinto is 100% better than the early points distributor in a 74 Pinto, 2.3L
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

unless your expecting a NUKE to go off near you and worried about the EMP effect that might kill your electronic ignition ::)

Yes, I would like to have this car run able if there was some kind of an electrical pulse that would disable the electronic systems

Well, I can see where the last post (#3) has the same wonky stuff I have been experiencing. You simply type, then backspace a letter or two and the font size changed to something miniscule.  Definately something weird in the formatting that doesn't seem to be the users fault. Very frustrating. It shows as the same font size when typing but shrinks when posting. Similar things happen if I italic or bold and continue typing. Therefore I make sure I type everything and THEN apply the changes.  Hopefully this can get sorted out.

Do not use the computor much and the smartphone even less , also hard to see , also I took it that this was his only idea to use the point ignition system , but you can still buy a duel point Mallery if you just want points , let us know ??
