i have a 74 wagon heat wasnt the greatest so i changed the thermostat...t he one i took out had like a sleave and fit down in the spout....new one looked like every other thermostat i have ever seen....but now i have NO heat???

Are you certain it's not your heat core? I'm not that good yet at this stuff, but you can check to see if it's clogged...

i believe it is because i do not have the right thermostat??

You can try changing it, they aren't too expensive.

none of these are like mine it has a inlet for upper radiator hose and small inlet for heater core.....the thermostat is sleaved and goes up in housing to where there is a constant flow from motor to heater core????

What temp T-stat did you get??, I put a new one(185*) in mine and it's an every day one no sleeve and the one I took out was the same and I get heat, maybe you're not running hot enough???..

It's cold here. I selected the *192 thermostat. You might have a vacuum issue, that is why my heat goes straight into my windshield. :)

Just thought about it, could be an air pocket in the heater core, I had one when I put the new core in and had no heat, I left the radiator cap off and when it got to temp and the t-stat opened I got a big air bubble come out the radiator, after that I had all kinds of heat.

Have you checked to see if there is a manual shut off valve in one of the hoses going to the heater?

Could just be a bad stat not closing fully and VERY common now. Like everything else on the planet the quality has gone to .........I warrantied so many brand new stats it wasn't funny when I was at the parts store. Many came back stuck partially open or crap part there. Maybe as much as 20% of the new ones failed at times and horrible.
What happens when you get 'lifetime warranty' parts made up by vast consortiums now, you have no idea of who made part any more and they are made cheap enough that they EXPECT you to get at least one more in every case, it's built into the price now and way too high. Chinese stats cost maybe fifty cents each to make. The old days of like Stant brand reliability are pretty much gone forever.

I ALWAYS check a new t-stat in a pot of water on the stove before installing, can save a lot of time/hassle..
