I will try to keep this as brief as possible.
Regretfully I live in PA and our inspection rules for a modified
vehicle are INSANE to say the least.
I am an old man working on what I am sure will be my last
project car. My racing days are long past and have been priced
out of street rodding, so my '76 wagon will be the last I do.
I do not want to give up my 'old school' carb set up, but I have
done all I can to get the eng. lower, I am still two inches to high
 for PA law.
My idea, cut out crossmember and space it down 2" and then
use 2" drop spindles to get back to somewhere near normal
ride height. Yes, the steering shaft & strut rod brackets would
 need modified.
I will appreciate any input on this idea. THANKS!

Wanted to add carbs pic but to old & dumb to figure it out.

Just so i understand, is your carb to high? above the hood. We have some laws here in wv about obstuctive view and are allowed i think 3 inches above the hood. We can get around it by getting antique tags. Then you can pretty much do what you want. So what is the set up your running?
I have a V8 set up and it all closes under the hood no scoop. Just thinking out loud i guess. One thing you can do i guess is MOVE to WV....

Hey Ricpinto:

Here is the link for PA antique and classic vehicles.

http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/fact_sheets/fs-ant.pdf

As stated in the last paragraph, "antique vehicles are not subject to the annual vehicle
safety inspection."

Hey phils toys:

Just curious, how would PennDMV know what is original or not on any antique car?

Thanks,

you have to take pic of front  rear and both sides  for antique plates  mine had a hitch on it and was rejected  " not factory equipment" took the hitch off and it went through.
i have been told the look at books and pics. to compair  "factory" to your photos.  once you  get the  antique plates you "can" change things alot of people do   but if cought  they can pull the plate, very slim chance of getting cought  though
but it does get you out of the inspection racket plate to start with is $125 and a life time plate in my county  inspection $53, plate  $36  so antique was the way to go.
on a side note it may take more than a month to get the decision on the plate
i had d friend that had side pipes on his car and had to photoshop them out and got away with  it.

Hey phils toys:

Interesting... I plan on doing the historical car routine here in Missouri
when I finish restoring my '77 this summer.  I got tired of having the
local Ford dealer tearing the crap out of my Pinto and charging me for it
every time I would bring it in for an inspection.  Historical cars in Missouri
do not have to undergo an inspection.

Like the bit about your friends photoshopping, a classic!   ;D
