Off sets and wheel width
« on: February 09, 2013, 07:17:43 PM »
I'm installing an 8.8 rear end in my 72 and I wondering what is the widest tire/rim that can be used and also what offset? Needing to buy some tires/rims.

I have 8 inch wide wheels on my wagon and I had to use 1.5 inch spacers to get good clearance.

need more info man.  8.8 out of what?
275's on about an 8 inch rim  seems to be about the limit for tire and rim width regardless of od.  offset is simply a matter of which diff you are using as that affects the wheel mounting surface to wheel well edge relationship and can only be figured  once we know the mounting surface to mounting surface width of your diff.

Explorer.. I was just trying to expidite buying of wheels. I sorta figured that it would need to be installed before final off set could be determined.

It's a bummer when you only have two weeks off.

Thanks,

sn 95  95-04 mustang offset will work.  and since your gonna ask. if you are using a t5 get an awd aerostar aluminum driveshaft.   Oh and the tunnel will need a little "massage" where the rear ujoint is. with the slight pumpkin offset it will rub when you launch hard and squat the rear
