OEM Gas Tanks....Fuel cells?
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:24:10 PM »
Does anyone know of anyone who sells OEM-style tanks for a 75-up Runabout? I like my tank under the spare tire..but Plastic wont go 'KABOOM' as badly, and won't rust;D Rust sucks.

I was also thinking about running a fuel cell in the original spot...but do they make the same general shape/style for street use? I imagine they would, but would they have a fuel gauge set-up? The Frog may be my car..but let's face it, a family member may need it in a dire situation, and I don't want 'em broke down due to no gas and no gauge to warn em.

Cheers!
-James
Bought my Pinto in '12, last tagged in '97. Had it on the road (thanks to a $20) spring '14. Tima to tear it apart, fix it correctly this time....and play with the drive train. Got a totally free & complete drive train-engine, 5 speed, drive shaft, and computer!

I understand there are ways to treat your original tank so it won't rust. I'm not a fan of fuel cells myself for various reasons. Mostly it's because I like original stuff. Anyway I think POR-15 (did I remember that right?) can be used to line the inside of a tank.
One can never have too many Pintos!

POR-15 & a few other companies do sell gas tank renew kits. There aren't any plastic tanks for Pintos unfortunitely.

Well crap.. who all sells the stuff? O'Riely's? Auto Zone? Also: should I replace the fuel pick-up and gas level reader while it's out?

If your gas gauge works just replace the little nylon filter on the pick up tube & replace the O-ring behind the lock ring.

Summit sells the tank coating kits but a parts store might be able to order one if they don't stock it..

Not yet. I'm tubbing it now so installing it should be simple with everything cut out back there.

I know I'm late to the party but Mustangs Unlimited had a brand new tank for my 78, same cost as treating it.
