No more fat bumpers
« on: September 20, 2011, 01:53:08 PM »
I retracted the front bumper on the 77 bob. It now fits flush and looks great. I did this with just hand tools. Took two hours. I posted it as Stupid bumper fix. No one responded to the post. I hate those bumpers and thought everyone else did as well. Now I have retracted the back bumper, one again just basic hand tools. No welding. It took just 6 hours. I received helpful input from Moonman, another member here. We have both fixed our rear bumpers. I would be glad to post instructions and photos of the process if any one is interested. Is anyone?

to each his own.I perfer to keep things as they came from the factory. Funny how bumpers were similar between different mfgs during different eras.60's through72 were chrome followed the countour of the grille,74-79  flat, big, 80's aluminum with plastic end caps,90's - present plastic, body colored.I think the big bumpers look fine on a Pinto. They stuck out because of the 5 mph regulation.I dont want to mess with history.

That's pretty much the way I feel about it too.  My first Pinto was a '74 and that was the first year of the big bumpers.  I loved that car and if I ever get another one (my current Pinto is a '72 with small bumpers) the bumpers will stay 100% authentic.
