Title: Next Problem. Signals and Fuel Guage
Post by: amxtra on September 11, 2012, 09:53:05 PM
Ok, so got the new Pinto running and with the help of a new master cylinder, stopping. All things considered it runs pretty good. But next problem I have found is the front signals.
The park lights work, the signals work from the rear but not from the front. The emergency flashers will flash rear and left front only.
Also the fuel guage seems to move up to the E and stop, I did put fuel in so it should be higher.
I have a set of 78 Ford shop manuals and was going to start tracing wires, but figured it never hurts to ask. Is  77 the same as 78 for wiring
Is there a common problem with the fuel guage and signals I should look for ?
    Thanks

First thing i would do from what you have described is to test all the bulbs.  sounds like you might have burnt out filments or slightly shorted ones that might be intermitent.  mine were.  replace (or change around) any that seem to be haywire.  i had to do this for a couple hours to find the shorted wire in my car. also use

1: light tester to check for power,  and 2: voltmeter to make sure you are getting proper power without any ground shorts.

hope this helps.  and i used a 77 shop manual so i am guessing all wires are the same.

I got a 77 sedan & a 78 electrical diagram & was able to use it with no problem. Not much if anything changed 77-78.

What's confusing me is a working front flasher but not the turn signal. They both use the same wires. Usually losing turn signals & or brake lights is a bad turn signal switch.
