Hi guys,
Tried to post an intro in the welcome section but it doesn’t seem to be there. Hope this post goes through.
Just picked up a nice little 1980 sedan and have three basic questions to get things squared away.
Tires. Need new ones. Will 175-70/R13’s fit in there without issue? Currently has ancient weather checked 80’s.
Need an outer timing cover so I can time it properly. All I can find online are ones for a 2.3 Ranger. Will those fit? Otherwise I’ll have to cobble together some sort of pointer deal.
Carb. The one on there works. Sort of. Previous owner did a half assed de-smog job and there are definitely parts missing. Any simple bolt on replacements? Maybe a Weber 32-36?
Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

60 views and still ... crickets.

yes- those tires will work, but I believe 185/80 is more like stock. That's what I have on both of mine.
I don't know if the ranger timing cover will work. I would continue to look for the pinto cover. They are out there. I think you can post a want ad on here. Maybe one for sale on this site.
I would get a replacement carb. I would look up 80 pinto and order the carb it calls for. Then take off the EGR/ smog stuff. plug the manifold and make or buy a cover where the egr goes to the intake.

I have 185/70R13 tires on my 78 wagon and they look great in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies. Did some more research and it turns out that 175 70/R13’s are nearly identical with the stock tires my Pony came with from the factory. Would have liked to go a little wider but got a smokin deal on a set of Hancook Optimas - $44 a tire for a 70K mile quality brand tire!
No joy in the parts for sale section or anywhere else on an outer timing cover.
Going to attempt (again) adding a couple pics. One of the carb and one of the car. Can anyone tell me what part is missing in the carb pic? Pretty sure it’s a diaphragm of some sort.
Why can’t I post pics? File size is within limits. Do I have to have a certain number of posts first? Arghus!

Welcome to you and your Pinto. Just put a Remanufactured carb on my 2.3 engine (Holly 5200) got one for Calif. smog car with automatic trans thru Auto Zone for $167.00 plus a core charge. Came complete with gasket and choke. Took an hour and a half to replace with minimum adjusting. Runs great. Beat the Heck out of trying to rebuild old one myself. Also have 185/70 R13 tires on factory slot mags. No rubbing or problems....go od ride. Enjoy your Pinto
