Need vacuum help.
« on: January 03, 2013, 09:05:42 PM »
I'm trying to clean up the engine bay on my 80 but I don't know what to do with all the vacuum lines. Especially the ones going to the air cleaner. Also, i'd like to delete the egr valve. How do I go about doing that?

If it works & isn't carboned up there really isn't a gain to toss the EGR. As for the vacuum mess I think the Duraspark & carb take cues from some of that spaghetti so replacing crusty hoses may be better than elimination.

Okay, that'd be fine too. I just don't like those cheesy lookin multi colored stock ones.

If you have easy starting & a smooth idle then simply replace each vacuum line 1 at a time until they are all new. I'm not the expert on interchange between the years but the older ones were much simpler.

Changing to a '74 water choke carb, distributor & ignition box would eliminate any emission calibration between the '80 pieces. Most of the vacuum lines could then be eliminated & the EGR removed.
