Need help with tires please!
« on: January 08, 2015, 01:56:29 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the pinto world. Im inheriting a 1980 wagon from my uncle, It will need all 4 tires replaced and i have an opportunity at some free tires.was wondering if a set of 215/70/14's would fit front and back.
Thanks.
Cole.

Welcome to the site and owning a Pinto. ;D
Well, first thing is the Pinto comes with 13inch rims, so unless you have 14 inch rims you are already out of luck.
Can't help with the main question, sorry.

guess you have some old Fairmont or early mustang 14" steel  wheels, they will fit but you have to check and see if they hit the back wheel well in the front end when you turn to the max , you may have to hammer a lip that sticks out there , some will clear and some will not,  I have 195 70 13,s  on my 76 ( they are rare now) and 205 55 15,s on my cruiser wagon , they both clear great , year ago I have some AP 14 " mag wheels 225 60 14 , had to do bend the lip over to clear , the rear you can stuff large tires , if you got the wheels and not the tire drive to a tire shop, they usually will mount a tire to try to see if it fits knowing your going to buy a whole set of them, (worked for me) but make sure to let the car sit on the wheel to see if it clears the wheel wells  when you turn the steering wheel , good luck
