Title: my little pony barn find
Post by: 79Nitemare on November 05, 2012, 04:55:59 PM
First I was given a 1980 hatch. From what I have read I believe it was lite blue 2.3L auto with air I have a HB for interrior code do you know what that means? The interrior has been gutted appears like a tan dash installed has 13" slots bodywork done looks good but need to inspect farther hatch is rusted was give a glass hatch with no hardware all other glass in good shape. Here is the biggie if this car is something that should be restored I don't have the money or time to do it right and rather trade it to someone who would for a street rod style. If it is not one of the rare ones I would love to do eaither a HiPo 4cyl or a v8 with handling primary importance.

Pics later phone won't let me downsize them.

Build it to suit your tastes.

Thank you Pinto5.0 but that doesn't answer my question.  If someone gave you a 1970 mustang fastback wouldn't you check the vin and codes? I wouldn't destroy a Boss Mustang no matter what condition it was in.  That being said I understand that I have a Pinto and there are not too many that were special.  Knowing what I have will lead to my decision on what I will do.  That being said,  DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE "HB" MEANS ON THE INTERIOR CODE? and anyone have any more info on this car.

HB is the interior code for Blue for the fabric headliner etc... As per my 1975-1976 Ford Car Shop Manual...I do not believe the code for Pintos has changed much.

If reading the Ford 1980 body-chassis manual correctly, the paint code 3F stands for a color of Light Med. Blue.  The 64B body code stands for 3 Door Sedan.  The interior code HB stands for vinyl low back bucket seats with a interior color of Wedgewood Blue.  In the VEH. IDENT. NO., the 0 is for 1980 (I believe), the T is for the Metuchen assembly plant, the 11 is a body serial code (same as the 64B described above), the A is for the 2.3 engine, the rest is a consecutive unit number.  No clue if this nice Pinto is rare or not.

Thank you both.  I will check a few other things but looks like I will have my resto mod I have always wanted.

I hadn't noticed that half my post didn't post. The rest of it said I have yet to see a stock Pinto that sold for more than 6K so build it to suit your tastes. It's why I love Pinto's. They aren't rare muscle cars so speculators don't drive prices up. My '80 hatch is a special order with a rare color combo but it's not stopping me from customizing it to my tastes.

I have seen some sprint models ones that were used and special ordered for the olimpics.  I have been thinking it would be kewl to paint both my pinto and 79 mustang up like sprint models.  would just need to find a maverick to complete the set.  But right now I would just like to have a scoop from the 79 to 82 mustang and a 302.  Know someone around here who has an awsome 80 I will see if she will let me post a pic or two.

Here's a pic of my '80 with it's '79 Mustang Turbo scoop. It had the draw thru turbo engine in it when I got it.

Here's my build thread. It may help with some decisions on future mods. My mind changed 5 times on the direction I was going on this car.
