Low boost ?
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:41:10 AM »
I got a T3/T4 and have installed but now getting 6-7psi. I had to put the old T3 wastegate housing on it and didnt have the gasket to go with it at the time. I was in a hurry to get it in and now I cant get any more then 6-7psi of boost out of it. It does seem to leak out at that seam and want to know if installing a gasket will get the boost going again? Its not a major leak but maybe it is leaking more then I think under boost. What do you guys think?

Any time you have an escape of pressure or heat it will effect spool rate and boost output.
Also check to see that the wastegate flapper is fully sealed and no exhaust is escaping there.
Keep us informed as to what you find out.

I took the turbo back apart and installed the gasket. The wastgate housing had serious buildup of old exhaust waste on it so I sanded it of, which took forever, polished it up and put it all back in. Major boost now, got to turn the manual controller down now. How much boost are you running? I want to run 21psi but not sure how safe it is, any suggestions? I am running brown tops so fuel shouldnt be to much of a problem.

IF you DO get 21psi out of it, you'll be running way too lean.

On a mild setup, I usually run larger injectors... 42# 46# and turn down the fuel pressure to make it easier on the fuel pump.
I like the 255 walbro, for some its overkill but I would rather have more than I need, rather than have to buy it again. Then again, I am not above running dual inline walbros to compensate for the fuel pressure on the NOS 5115 system.

I was thinking of the FMU setup. Not as expensive as bigger injectors and does the job only when I need it. I have it set at 18 now but I will get something for when I need more fuel. Thanks for the suggestions and info. I dont want to run lean and ruin my engine just yet.
