Title: Lincoln Mark VII LSC as donor car
Post by: derfknirb on March 24, 2013, 10:26:01 AM
Hello, I'm seeking info on what suspension modifications are required when installing 5.0 in '73 Pinto wagon. I have a '90 Lincoln Mark VII LSC Special Edition which was rear-ended as donor car. The accident is reason for buying the Pinto. I hope to be able to use many systems off of the LSC from the 5.0, the 8.8 rear-end with 4:10's, and the 4-wheel disc brakes along with the 17" Cobra rims and wide low profile performance tires. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

WELCOME  derfknirb!

Using the Mark VII as your donor, you should end up with one hot Pinto!  I'm no mechanic, and can be of no help to you information-wise, but you came to the right place; this site is full of folks who definitely know their stuff!!!  Be sure to keep us informed as your project advances.

Dwayne :)

youll need a really deep backspacing on the rear rims to keep the tires under the body... i used an 8.8 and swapped to mustang axles and drum brakes and have .5.5 BS on my welds and it barely is under the car...my rear is 1.5 inches narrower than your rear will be.... mine also came from a mkvii

The rear end would be (IMO) one of your biggest challenges...y ou could do what Pinturbo said and go with deep wheels or if you have recently fallen into a pot of money you could always have the rear end narrowed.

But, a general question that will help you too if the answer is what i think it is...what is the track width on the Ranger? Some came with the 8.8's and it might be a lot closer fit.  You could easily sell the 8.8 out of the LSC and probably score a Ranger rear pretty cheap...then simply gear as you wish and add a good LSD...might even be able to install the rear disc setup off the LSC (although you'd take a hit-no pun intended-on the resale price)...

But, whatever you do, please post pics...I'm from Alabama, therefore i can't read and need them there pictures O0
