The 2.8 in the pinto used two different heads , early heads had the spark plug wit a gasket, later 77 up had the new style taper plug , when I rebuilt my engine on my 76 one head had a small crack , but not leaking (yet) on my 79 both head were busted , the fan belt broke and ran hot in a blink of an eye , friend of mine had a old 86 bronco II with the 2.8 and he gave me the heads , which I used , this was the last year for the 2.8 and being used in a truck I believe all the up grades to the engine and head were done ,it was made for unleaded and has induction hardened seats ,and good grade valves , found a new set on eBay for the ranger , the block it thicker also and camshaft journals are larger , if you can find one use it , it has a different timing cover and the water pump also , has a larger bearing and the big plus three grove pulley that all the fan belts go over , so if you lose a belt your still running the water pump , ford made that change knowing how easy the heads crack when you run it hot , hope this helps you ,
