Title: just wasted two hours
Post by: JoeBob on August 09, 2015, 04:13:14 PM
my car sat for 14 years under a tree, I am trying to clean out leaves in the lovers in front of windshield. I took out inner fender looking for access. I took off rt side fender, no access there either. I am thinking of cutting through the fire wall. Anyone know a better way.
Thank you
Bill

Taking off the hood gives you a couple of small access holes.

It has been a long time, but I recall removing both fenders and then using a thin, cheap drain snake (from the dollar store) to scrape out the area. I also used a yard stick through the vent holes.  The secret is to get as much moving at the end otherwise the debris tends to just build up. Eventually I used water to float out what didn't come with scraping, then a leaf blower to get out that which wouldn't float.  And, yes, you will get debris in the car! I've used magnetic strips and window screen to cover the area when not driving. It helps a lot.

If you take off the fender there should be flat shaped drain "gutters" on either side of the cowl. If you take off the hood, and take the rubber hinge protectors off you should be able to get a lot out. (On EBAY right now someone  is selling a cowl cover he cut out of a Pinto, if desperation kicks in) I had good luck with what I just described. Those flat gutters get blocked up pretty easily. I live in the middle of the woods.

I did not find any gutters so I took the hood off. I used a flexible handle bottle brush and a vacuum and got the job done. Thanks
