Title: Is the Pinto/Mustang II camber/caster tool set worth having?
Post by: russosborne on October 13, 2014, 10:14:00 AM
I keep seeing these for sale. There is one currently for sale for $25 here on craigslist.
Just wondering if they are really worth having.
Thanks,
Russ

Not really, just helps. You can do the work without it, a time saver mainly. And you won't use it much.

That is what I had thought likely.

They are all over ebay. I don't know about the 72 year though.
The one that made me ask was local to Phoenix, AZ and states for 74 and newer.

Look at the last pic in the instructions, you need the hole in frame boss to anchor the lower tip. Both sides of control arm, two holes.

Good catch. Not for my 72 at all.

I've forgotten what early Pinto frame boss looks like but the hole is not precision as to size or exact location, if one were so inclined they could maybe drill holes in any boss present there. The tools are not precision as well, all they are is small jack to move a-arm on that corner in or out and then hold it in place, you get same effect by barely tightening the a-arm bolts with no tool at all. Not as easy to change settings though but doable. Easier with tools installed to whack a-arm further back for more caster while keeping camber relatively the same. The tool just gets it done faster with more repeatability.

If you were doing these commonly, yeah, buy them.......tho se days are gone though.
