Title: Identifying year of front end
Post by: WRMDOVR on November 20, 2017, 11:15:55 PM
Hello....I am new to this board.  i have a kit car based upon a custom boxed ladder chassis that is extremely well built.  The rear is a 1972 Pinto with 3:08 gearing...I know it is 1972 from the tag bolted to the rear.  I am changing the rear due to the increase in HP as I am putting a 4.3 V6 chevy in it that will put out 250HP.  The front end is Pinto as well and I am wanting to upgrade the front as much as possible, however I do not know how to identify what year it is. I would like to put disc's and if possible change to 5 lug as the rear I am installing has 5 lug.  I am doing all of the work myself and have a reasonably decent budget for this build, but do not want to go crazy just to spend money.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated on this front end question/issue.

Need pictures to answer your questions.

Dick is right without pictures it is hard to tell. The 71-73 front end is different from the 74-80 - in general grouping. And there may be specific things that are different within those groups. For instance there is an odd, one year only steering rack in the 1973 year.  The 74-80 group has the greater number of options. The 71-73 has far rarer parts and items like rotors can be upwards of $150 each!

So, snap away. Note that there is a 4 picture limit per post unless externally linked and a file size limit is applied.  Use the "Reply" at the end of the previous post to access the picture posting. Don't use the Quick Reply at the bottom of the page as it limits options (at least to me it seems to make pictures more complicated).

A close up picture of the steering rack will also help a lot.
