ID the dash dimmer wire
« on: November 23, 2014, 10:44:16 AM »
hey all,

i need to splice into the dash/cluster dimmer light wire, (finally want to light up my gauges). placed in a new vac gauge yesterday, and decided that it is time to finish wiring it all up.   looked through my books but couldn't fully get a grip on what the wire colour code is, or best place ti splice in.

thanks

Typically Ford makes the gauge lighting circuit blue or blue/black tracer. Easiest place to tap in is at the audio connector, but it's cleaner at the cluster connector.

I like to tap into the instrument light dimmer wire, just off the switch. Then you can dim your auxiliary gauges with the panel light dimmer control.

that would have worked nicely too.  i should have done it that way, wasn't into pulling the dash apart today.   the car doesn't get driven much during the nights in summer anyway...  so it will be ok for now   :)

thanks
