I need a driveshaft!
« on: August 21, 2014, 03:13:24 PM »
What driveshafts are compatible with the 75 wagon, 2.3 with a automatic 3 spd... I need a new driveshaft and wagons are hard to come by in the pick-a-parts around here!

Sedan driveshafts are the same length. I believe MII shafts work as well. Fox body Mustangs are close in length but you will need new U joints.

Measure yours from cap center to cap center & crawl under some & see what's close. I do know 4 cyl. Fox with T5 manual is 45.5 inches as is the shaft from an all wheel drive Aerostar. Both work in most Pintos but are shorter than stock C3 Pinto shaft

Stay away from the Aero Star driveshaft. It's too short and had one in mine. The problem with it was the vibration it caused on the highway. I found a stock wagon driveshaft and it works fine now. What happened, and there is a bunch of posts since I was trying to figure out what was going on, the car at higher speeds would vibrate like it was the X-wing fighter in Star Wars just before it blew up.

A wagon driveshaft, as I understand, is a tad longer than the others.
Vehicles:

- 1972 Plymouth Duster (To be a Pro Street)
- 1973 Ford Pinto wagon (registered ride 195)
- 1976 Mustang II mini-stock
- 1978 Mustang King Cobra II
- 1979 Ford Pinto Runabout
- 1986 Chevy K5 Blazer
- 1997 Suzuki Marauder

FORD: Federal Ownership Respectfully Denied

Thanks guys! I'll try looking and see what's closest... And if I find a wagon I'll snatch that up

I don't know if it will help, I have an extra driveshaft from a 1980 hatchback. I am in Pa.

I have the stock one out of my Runabout that I'm not likely to use and I'm in SoCal. It's 47" center-to-center, by the way. I just got one out of a 2001 Mustang  that's 45.5 like all the Fox3 cars before it.

'68 Mustang - Built roller 302, Toploader, 9", etc.

The 45.5" length is correct when you run a T5 trans with an 8" rear axle in any Pinto

I believe it's also the stock length for C4 Pintos regardless of rear end, which I guess means that my 47" stocker wouldn't work for themarine117.

Can you contact me? Where in SoCal are you? Text is best, I work during the day 760-669-9009 I need it ASAP, cars my daily driver And somehow it bent.
