Title: Hub centric or lug centric ?
Post by: Reeves1 on December 24, 2018, 06:06:09 AM
1972 Pinto fronts.

Googled it & no answer.

Reason I ask is both my old & new front Centerline wheels the hub has a gap.
There is a steel insert in both.

You can (sort of) see the insert in the right wheel ?

From what I have seen, the Ford steel wheels are hub centric.  Have not worked with Ford aluminum wheels.  The aftermarket aluminum wheels that I have used were just lug centric (no experience with Centerline).  Ideally, both the lugs and hubs should put the wheels in the same location.

Note the 71-73 Pinto hubs are smaller than the 74-80 hubs.  So the 71-73 Ford steel hub centric wheels will not fit over the 74-80 hub.

Note: not steel inserts. Tried a magnet on them yesterday.

Sent an e mail to Center Line as well.....

I'd think any stamped steel wheel regardless of its "centric" is going lack some accuracy.  On the other hand I'd also think any alloy aftermarket (or factory) wheel would be hub and lug centric at the same time otherwise thay wouldhave some pretty sloppy machining practices.

On the Centerlines I'd think anything that looks like steel (but as you have found isn't) it probably just rust transfer from a previous installment of the stell hub.

I always thought/assumed that taper-seat lugs meant lug-centric and washer seats were hub-centric. I think wheels run truer when they align on the hub regardless of lug type, therefore...
