how to remove steering whee
« on: July 14, 2013, 06:26:51 PM »
Hello all, I'm trying to remove my steering wheel but it looks like I need a puller to remove it?  I got off the horn, unscrewed the three screws and undid the large nut on there, but no dice in getting it off so I'm assuming I need a puller.  Just asking as I didn't need one when working on my 66 Mustang, it just came right off.

I've got some off by wiggling but some needed a puller.

Thanks for the replies, I do believe I have a rubber mallet here, might try that first, otherwise I will probably just get a puller from the store.

A cheap puller is under 10 bucks. It's worth it to have it in your toolbox. Mine's 20 years old & has pulled dozens of wheels. This wont be the only time you need it.

Pullers are cheap or just make one, when you come across a wheel that's real tight you'll be glad you have one.

got mine from O'Riely's for around $12.00. It's all steel too.
Bought my Pinto in '12, last tagged in '97. Had it on the road (thanks to a $20) spring '14. Tima to tear it apart, fix it correctly this time....and play with the drive train. Got a totally free & complete drive train-engine, 5 speed, drive shaft, and computer!

Ended up buying a puller - had to look online to figure out how to use it, but I got the wheel off!
