Title: Holley 390cfm, 5200, ranger carb or 32/36 weber
Post by: MitchiePinto on October 16, 2012, 03:43:11 PM
These are my options Im wondering if the stock settings on these carbs would run a 2.3L

Will the 5200, single barrel ranger carb and 390cfm holley be ok for a 2.3L with racing cam and headers

Im thinking of using a re-maned 5200 with stock manifold to run my 2.3L

Also Ive got this 390cfm holley from an old guy I found out that they are very rare and made just for 4 cylinders but this carb is missing way to much parts

I picked up an NOS carb for my '76 for $62 shipped. If it's a daily driver that's the way to go.

Now for looks & performance on my '77 sedan I have an Esslinger intake for dual Weber IDF's, 2" risers, 2 new Italian 40 IDF carbs & 4" velocity stacks. I have no clue how it's gonna run but it should look amazing  ;D

Hi,  if I may toss this out there.   Wouldn't a well tuned and well responsive carb be better and then adjusting the jets to the performance you are needing?  I would go with a carb that is in good/great condition and revamp it to make it be as you need it. here are a couple ideas to read through and to give you a bit of an idea.  (i haven't been able to do this with my build yet for I haven't had the car on the road to check for responces with the motor yet, however will be needing to rejet? maybe)

hope this helps to steer you into the right decisions.

I just want a carb that would give me the smoothest idle and operation, I'm also paranoid about my current carb running a wee bit rich due to it being designed for a v6 or v8

It was on ebay. Every now & then a cheap one pops up.
