HELP!
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:31:26 AM »
OK, I have too many cars and 1 and maybe 2 have to go. I've heard from my landlady and she said something has to go. None of my cars are done, paint on the Pinto and Galaxie 500 along with the motor is out being rebuilt right now for the King Cobra. The BMW 318ti keeps my insurance low on the classics, although I guess I can try and find another company selling insurance without the newer daily driver insurance. I'm not certain what to do here.

Which one or two would you guys let go and remember I love all of them except the BMW (although it's fast and fun to drive and handles like a banshee running out of hell).

They are all the cars I wanted to own, except the BMW. Which would you let go, the BMW? And if she forces the sale of another which would you get go? The Maverick? That thing is like it came out of the factory underneath and in the engine compartment and everything mechanical has been changed. The Pinto needs some front-end work, very minor though.

I'd like your input!

Get rid of the Galaxie. Too big and uses too much gas.

Get rid of the Galaxie. Too big and uses too much gas.

It's the 2nd most valuable car in the lot, and the King Cobra isn't good at all with a built 302 having done. The Galaxie is a 351 Windsor, so better MPG than the Cleveland. Ever drive one of these boats? Like sitting in your living room really LOL

But if something has to go, maybe the Galaxie. Love all my cars :(

Dump the Galaxie. It's a car for an "Old Fart" trying to look semi cool.  And, you sure don't want to be one of those!

For your sake, I hope she does.  There are times I curse home ownership (for instance, last week when I discovered a leaking dishwasher pump has rotted a section of my kitchen floor) but at least I'm not at the mercy of a landlord!  We have five vehicles parked here most of the time, and will soon be adding a sixth!  If you ever buy a property, avoid one with a HOA - they tend to dislike car collectors too.

Glad  all worked out -  hope it satisfies the landlady!
Will have to replace some of the floor but it's not really that big a job.  When you own a house there is always something to do!

Over my life I've owned several old and built one new, will never build a custom house again probably. Owning is nice, but for me Dwayne, I want to be in different part of the country and I'll get back there :)

Yeah, it should, something has to be in the driveway so ordered a cover for the Pinto, have to work on that dang Mustang now and get the engine compartment ready!

I don't think there is an easy way to trim the herd. Speaking as someone who at one time had a collection of.
1984 Eagle
1978 King Cobra
1977 Pinto hatchback
1974 AMX
1988 Bronco II
1959 Nash Metropolitan
1995 Sportster
2000 Grand Cherokee
1987 Comanche
Now is trimmed down to the Eagle, Pinto, King Cobra, AMX, Sportster and the Bronco which will be going in spring.
If I had the parking I would still have most of these, that being said, if I found a Pinto wagon today, I would find room for it.
On your list I would keep the King ( but Im biased ) the galaxie for highway cruising and base the rest on a matter of condition, likelyhood of getting finished , and how much I needed cash to finish them. Never an easy choice to sell your toys.  Wow.. that was no help at all... lol
Perhaps moving is the easiest choice....

amxtra,

Honestly, I have all of them in some sort of restoration, the Pinto Wagon is closet to being painted and front seats completed, I may consider a 2.3 for it though. That's one sweet ride. The Maverick is completely rebuilt mechanically right down to the fuel lines. Now it's interior and body work. The King has the engine and trans being rebuilt right now. I'm also partial to the Mustang IIs because a 1974 Ghia was the very first car I purchased new. The Galaxie is going to get detailed and a new headliner and that's pretty much all it needs with some repairs to the front seat. Already got the missing chrome pieces. So these are the 4 that I am keeping.

That bike isn't going anywhere, I keep it in a shed, but I ride that most of the time weather permitting!

So thinning it, not now :D I'm still looking for a place around here with a shop and some garages. There are more cars I want, but I just can't until at least 2 are finished.

You're right, it's difficult to thin the cars you always wanted. The Eagle is the car I wish I had now. But later maybe ;-)

I did get rid of my 1959 Rambler Cross Country though.

BTW, that 1984 Eagle - sweet ride and I had one when I lived in PA. It was awesome in the snow with the 4-wheel drive!

In my opinion, the AMC Eagle was way ahead of its time!  My family owned a 1981 sedan, and then later a 1985 wagon, both purchased new.   Their handling in snow was far superior to the 4x4 F150 they also had... better weight distribution, I suppose.

I loved mine Dwayne and if one came up for sale around here in decent condition I would grab it. Don't know where I'd put it though LOL But that was one heck of a 4x4 in a wagon format! So I agree with you! Leather inside, it was a sweet ride!

First off.. should say couldn't not could pass up...
Its a 4.2 ( 258 ) engine, but I have a 4.0 litre at the machine shop just about done getting rebuilt for it. Want to go with fuel injection, remote start, etc. But the only wiring kit I found has been discontinued. Might have to do it the hard way with factory harness.
Love that car, cost me very little, is a great 4x4, and everything including the air, after a 134 retrofit works.
