Yeah, you can use the Mustang rears for the Pinto. I may end up using a 9inch if I am able to go with the 351C engine and manual trans.
but for right now I was hoping to go cheap and use the 4 lug MII 8inch rear I have. I can order axles for it, but if I have to do that I will just get a Mustang 9inch since the cost for a used Mustang 9 inch (without trac lock) isn't much more than just the custom axles. At least around here.
Oh, speaking of Mustang rears, the 65/66 is slightly narrower than the 67-70 and a closer fit. But either is pretty close. You just have to be careful with tire width, and either move the leaf spring perches slightly or just make the mounting hole a tad larger. About half an inch on each side or less if I remember right.
I knew that years ago there wasn't a larger front disk option for the 4 lug, I was hoping maybe things had changed. But it seems like there is even less available for our Pintos than there was 10 years ago instead of more.
Going 5 lug will be the easiest, just not as cheap as I was wanting for now. I have to buy wheels/tires anyway once I really get back into it, so that isn't a big deal at least.
Thanks,
Russ
