Title: Harness question

On my 1980 Ford Pinto, does anyone know what the harness is for , that is mounted inside the engine compartment on the driverside fender wall behind the ignition coil? Its a harness with two wires with what looks like vacuum ports ?

Did it have A/C? Might it be the vacuum canister connection, or did they start putting that in the fender in later years? (I have a 73 with a canister in this place)

I think that is for the vacuum switches or solenoid for the feedback carburetor system that the 2.3s used in 79 and '80- in Calif anyway.  Is there a computer 'brain box' under the dash above the driver's foot?

No , isnt the brain box the silver colored box under the hood on the drivers side fender near the front , My pinto does not have A/C. I have looked in the repair manuals and have not found any information telling me what it is.

I have an '80 but don't have the harness to which you are talking about, the silver box on the driver side front fender should be the voltage regulator. Because you made me curious, I found a vacuum line loose to my carb while searching , thanks!

Oh! It is an emissions solenoid. I pulled one similar off of a 78 Station Wagon a couple years ago. It works in conjunction with the carburetor, not sure about the details though, I'm sorry.

EGR delay solenoid, yes, it is for emissions. On my '76 wagon, it is located next to my brake booster. Since I am doing a "near stock" restoration, I disassembled and cleaned/renewed everything and hooked it back up.

Yours is just a little different, having only a turquoise colored body. Mine is in two parts, turquoise and yellow.

The smog pump was locked up on it when I purchased the car , So I just removed all of it.  Do you think it would be safe to remove that harness as well?

What do you mean by "that harness"? In general, early emissions equipment was not in any way tied to a computer, so removal will not necessarily cause failure - meaning, the car will still run. I am keeping all of my emissions stuff intact just as a "preservation exercise", not because it is absolutely necessary. Hope that makes sense.
