hard shift into rev

have a question just got this 73 wag with a 2.0 automatic  that needs some lovin most I can do myself so that part is easy just did a full tune with fluids ect I changed the trans fluid it was a little dirty ( I have seen worse ) got all that done and I had hoped that it would help with this problem but it didn't change a thing when shifting into rev its like wham  goes into rev gear very hard but shift to drive and that is smooth and easy shifts just fine through all forward gears. have had other automatic pintos years back but never had this problem any ideas. the last time I even touched a pinto was in 1982 so im a little rusty.  thanks so much
