Fuel system for turbo conversion?
« on: September 20, 2003, 11:25:29 AM »
Hey! Can anyone suggest "how to" mod my fuel system for a turbo conversion? My car is an 80 hatch auto. I have a complete engine/trans out of a 85 t.c. Also have wiring & e.c.u. Any info would be great!

Thanks

You need a good high pressure inline pump. You will also need to run two high pressure lines, one from the pickup in your tank to the fuel rail and the other a return from the fuel rail to the tank.  Some people just use thier existing fuel line to use as the return to the tank but i personally don't like that idea. The return can be plumbed into the filler neck that goes to the tank (remember.... no sparks!)    Jeff

ps.  MAKE SURE YOU USE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE!

Use high pressure fuelline/pump o.k. cool. I raided the whole fuel lines off the T-bird, the're plastic. Do you think I could trim/splice them to still use the factory filter? Also any mods to the sender/pick up? Pump position?

I have the stock tank with a Holley Blue pump pulling from the tank and feeding an XR4TI inline EFI pump, I used 3/8 alum. line and welded a return fitting at the bottom of the filler neck.

When i built my F.I. StangII i used a Ranger truck inline pump.i had a holley blue pump to pull fuel out of the tank, and feed a 1gallon surge tank. The Ranger pump pulled fuel out of that to feed the engine. This setup never starved a mildly built 5.0 Everything was steel lines, and flare fittings up to the enginewher i had one piece of high pressure rubber to connect to the fuel rail.

The XR4ti sounds like a strange animal. Need to chex one out. Wounder if the pump would work alone?
