Having had a 2.3 Ecoboost in a 2015 Mustang for a couple of years, I will say that would be a heck of a power plant for a Pinto.  Good luck!

The ECUs for them are so highly integrated into the original car's electronic systems that you'll need the standalone control pack from Ford Racing. Luckily they're quite affordable at just $2,000. [/sarcasm] They are also drive-by-wire and the rest of the driveline, brakes, and tires will need attention with ~300ft-lbs on tap. Just something to think about.
'72 Runabout - 2.3T, T5, MegaSquirt-II, 8", 5-lugs, big brakes.
'68 Mustang - Built roller 302, Toploader, 9", etc.
