Clutch Pedal Assy Swap
« on: November 05, 2012, 08:51:44 PM »
I eventually want to change my 1974 2.3 Wagon from automatic to manual transmission. Will the clutch/brake pedal assembly from my 1977 parts car fit? Both cars have manual brakes.
TIA,
Mike

I plan to do that exact swap myself between the same years. It's supposed to be a bolt in job.

if your clutch holes are there for the later pedal assembly then it will work.if you have an early year 74 then you will have to use the early pedal assembly from 71 to 74 like i have to do,or use later model steering bracket and everything else that goes with that. aka  damned if you do and damn if you dont. ill be putting my t5 in this week, since i have been laid off work and the company closed its doors.i hope that helps

When you say early year '74, what date am I looking for?  I am about to purchase a '74 automatic car that I would like to convert to manual, but I don't want to buy a pedal assembly from the wrong year car.  Thanks!

Mike, (I like Lugnut!)
The clutch pedal assembly from your '77 may not work on your earlier model car.  However, I do have a late model steering column channel that would make things work on the '74 for $32 plus ship.

When I inquired about the conversion on my '73 I was told that there were four different pedal configurations used on the Pinto. Obviously the '71-'73 (and apparently some '74's also). I'm not sure how the others were split years wise, but I was told that brake booster models required a different pedal.

So, sorry I don't have a definitive answer, but I'd recommend caution to the things I mentioned.
