Floor carpets
« on: October 07, 2011, 12:00:33 AM »
Has anyone used regular carpet in their pinto for the front floors? Im running thin in the pocket after buying all the other things I need, and wondered if at least temporarily, I could get away with this. And how to do it.

Tony, I have 2 cars with regular carpet... IMO = it suxs! doesn't fit right and looks terrible. If your old carpet is in OK shape but faded... carpet in a can works great!

carpet in can = cheap spray paint

I have used this method once and was surprised how it turned out

No they are useless beyond stating.

About this carpet in a can, will it actually change the color say if I had a light brownish carpet I could spray it and change it to Red?

I think since you say it wont look good,I might just get two strips to lay over the area being repaired in the floor, and not buy a whole big piece. Not spend as much now and try to get the molded one from ebay later. How much is the carpet in a can?

Ritt dye works wonders as well. Mix it with half as much water as directed & apply it to the carpet with a sponge or rag. It lasts for years.

carpet in a can is a "funny" way of saying = cheap spray paint = available at any walmart, kmart, etc

is best used to fix faded carpet, not the best for changing color. Although going from a light tan to red "may" work?

I get carpet from stock interiors. They have an ebay store as well and it's about $135.00 with free shipping and fits great, well worth the money, even has the foot pad under the pedals.

I do use regular carpeting in my 73 station wagon, but only in the cargo area since it's not reproduced that I know of. So far so good, even though it doesn't match the passenger area or the interior color, but it is a brownish color. I am in the process of making a vinyl cargo cover that will go from the back of the rear seat to the tail gate to cover up the rear area and still look somewhat like a "Pinto option" thing, even though it wasn't.

id agree with trying to find a mustang or similar and use that if your funds are low will have the hump in carpet and wont look like you are trying to glue five different things together..

It is a one piece molded carpet for both my 73 and 78.

Kinda ashamed to say this,But the black carpet in my 80 turbo car is from Lowes. Its outdoor carpet. Think I got about $40 in it plus $12 for outdoor carpet glue.

The black carpet in my '80 is perfect but sunfaded so it will get the Ritt dye treatment once I pull it to patch the 2 holes on my floor. My hatch carpet is a bit ratty on the one edge though.

Has anyone found a supplier for the hatch carpet?
