I had a 72 Pinto years ago I put a 289 in. I remember having to modify the firewall. Big hammer and a block of wood. That was a 72.
My plan is this time to find a 74 and newer. I think I may have found a 76 Bobcat. Seems I remember reading somewhere the 74 and up Pinto and Bobcat shared the same firewall as the rustangII and the firewall did not have to be modified. Is that true or did I imagine it?
The combination I want to end up with is simple. STONE STOCK 302 roller motor with a T5 behind it. I want reliable and able to run on 87 octane in 100 plus degree Georgia heat and humidity. Thanks for any help.

Has no one done a 78 and up 302 car? I tried searching, but I cannot narrow it down enough where it won't take days to find the answer.

If you use an MII bellhousing there are no issues. A bigger C4 bell needs some minor massaging but not much. The T5 bell should fit with no pounding.

Thanks so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. I plan to run a bone stock GT40P Explorer engine with the 5.0 Mustang GT cam carbureted with a T5. I appreciate your answer. I was beginning to think maybe English wasn't the forum's first language.

Just not a lot of guys on here putting T5's behind their V8's. I plan to do just that myself so I mocked up my 77 sedan before scrapping it. I didn't bolt it all down, just shoved it close enough to look for issues. Biggest headache appears to be that you need to bolt the bellhousing to the block with the engine a few inches forward of the mounts then tilt it down in the back to bolt the trans. up then position it on the mounts.

Your going to have to change the oil pan as well. It has to be a front sump. The Mustang II pan is what to use but those are scarce at times. My 79 drag car used a front sump pan but it wasnt a Mustang II pan. They used some small shims between the engine mounts and block to get just enough clearance for it to work. The engine mounts will have to be Mustang II unless you use an aftermarket engine mount and weld or bolt new perches in the car.

I have a rustang 2 pan on the way. I found a mounting idea that will add a LOT of strength to the Pinto front end while adapting a small block, mounts and all for around 150 bucks shipped, so that's the route I will take.

I picked up a new Milodon 30926 pan for $100 that was used for mock up but never filled with oil. It's for a 351W so I'm gonna need to weld in the end from a scrap 302 pan to seal the mains but that's easy enough to do. I'm making my own frame mounts as well as engine mounts so I can get mine exactly where I want it.
My total cost should be around $320 to swap my V8 in which includes $60 for the Milodon pick up tube & the $160 I spent for the original Hooker Headers.
