My mother had a factory new 73 Pinto sedan. It was eventually wrecked. Before junking it I pulled all the still good stuff off. The factory spare had never been used. It was a Firestone Deluxe Champion  A78-13 with a very narrow 1/4 inch whitewall.  This car was originally sold in Illinois...... .....don't know if region of country had anything to with brand. :) :)

thanks for the info!! will check my two spares to see if they are that identical tire or not, im sure they changed them year to year but size is the same!
i know my 75 has a firestone in it and im the second owner so i have to believe its the original one, the 78 wagon not too sure im like the 6th owner and the guy i bought it from was kinda a NUT!?!?!    blew a tire in it and then removed all the a/c parts because the in his words "the freon leaks on the tire and blew it out"?
well take care and thanks again on the info

No way would I be running original style tires there, you can save a mile a gallon simply going to radials. Many places carry nothing but those nowadays as well, just wait till in emergency you end up mixing them. Good way to get killed there.

Wow, a Firestone 500! Thought those were all recalled in the late 70s. They had major problems with belt and tread seperation. Thats a rare piece.

We had Firestone radials like that on my friend's '74 Firebird, we hotdogged it quite a bit. Needless to say two blew out when the tread section delaminated, before it was all over we ended up with 4 new General tires IIRC. All before car had 3K miles on it. Everybody back then was upset at Firestone over that tire.

My dad's 79 wagon came with Firestone 721's.  All 5 including the spare.  He used the spare and bought three more when he replaced the original tires on the car.  We still have the best 721 from the original set as the spare.
