Engine serial # confirmation and carb question

(1/1)

mdspeedster:
My engine serial number is D8EE-06015-BA.
Am I correct is deciphering this as a 1978 2.3L Pinto (not Escort or truck?)?.
Am trying to find a replacement carb or carb rebuilding kit.
It's a 1-barrel with 7632S stamped on the base, two other numbers on the carb are 8603 and 8509.
Can't find these numbers cross-referenced anywhere.
Had a small engine fire this past summer so rebuilding wiring, etc.
Appreciate any help understanding this info, crossreferenci ng.

davidpinto:
IT COULD BE A 2.0 MOTOR OUT OF A RANGER,THEY HAD 1 BBL CARBS.I CAN LOOK UP YOUR #S TOMORROW.

Wittsend:
If it helps the Escort did not use the Lima 4 cylinder in the Pinto. So, you can rule that out.

davidpinto:
DEFINETLY A RANGER MOTOR , COULD BE A 2.0 OR 2.3, RANGERS CAME WITH BOTH FROM EARLY 80s AND HAD 1BBL CARBS.
COULD'NT IDENTIFY BLOCK WITH OUT VIN#

mdspeedster:
Davidpinto and Wittsend,
Thanks for your responses.
A VIN is not available since the engine is installed in a track roadster.
All four of my intake ports are round but some 2.0 and 2.3 intake gaskets have larger, oval-shaped holes in #1 and 4 ports and won't work.
The rest of the gasket matches up (bolt and port holes) including the water port in the center of the four intake ports.
Why the difference?  Does that help to identify the engine?
