engine rebuild?

I am getting back to my project.  Im rebuilding the carb now. Im thinking about doing an engine rebuild,  I was looking for advise,  where would I find a rebuild kit for a 2300cc for my pinto? I will gladly take any additional free advise as well.

Lesson #1.........................it's not that simple.

It is a mistake to buy a rebuild kit until the engine is torn down and gone over for what needs to be done to it. You may well need oversize bearings or rings and pistons and may be well looking for a machine shop qualified to do the machine work. Buy the rebuild set and often a big mistake if standard sized parts bought there. Could cost you plenty. Everybody just assumes the old engine is perfectly rebuildable and the commonly a big error made there......... ...

If only it were that easy.........a nd why they point out all the sizes available there.

Agreed. Before you tear it down and measure/inspect journals and such, you have no way of knowing whether the block is still original or if it has been previously rebuilt and already has oversize bearings/pistons/etc. There are service limits that come into play, if it has been oversized to a certain point, it may not even be rebuild-able.

If you have never done it before, either read a lot, or let a machine shop do the measuring. :)

If you never done it before it's best to have someone with the knowledge around to oversee the project.

I took the easy way out and got a "core" engine from Fred and built it at my leisure. Tear down, inspect, order parts without a time crunch is nice..... ;D

That's why I keep a couple longblocks around. It's nice to have a spare for a rebuild if needed.

I really should get another 2.3 and a C-4 and re build both then I can have a whole fresh setup and get rid of the C-3
