Title: Engine Ligh
Post by: BluePony on April 01, 2016, 11:12:58 AM
I have a 79 pinto pony with the 2.3 and  the engine light has been flicking on when I push the breaks to come to a stop and the light shuts of right when I let off the breaks. The light has been coming on more often now and I'm not sure if I should be driving it or not. I checked the break pads and rotors and the fluid and everything looks normal. If anyone has any idea what the problem is it would sure help. Thanks

I would check to see if part of the brake pedal assembly is rubbing on the wiring. May have worn thru the insulation and completes the circuit when the pedal rubs against it. Or  if the engine runs rough when you hit the brakes, it could be a vacuum leak(power brakes only), and causing idle to drop or stumble and oil pressure to drop. At any rate, the only reason for that lite to come on during operation are over heating and/or low oil pressure.
