Title: Emission parts needed
Post by: AndrewG on July 09, 2015, 08:26:43 AM
We have a fellow Shay Model A owner who is in need of the Pinto emissions parts in order to pass inspection.  We're looking for the air pump, front and back cats, tubing around carb, pipes attached to exhaust, EGR valve and other emissions parts that originally came on the 1980 Pinto.

If anyone here still has these parts, please post a response.  We would like to help her out as soon as possible since she is catching grief from her home state and is unable to use her car.

Thanks,
Andrew

Don't most states have an exemption for older cars , the bad thing you have brain dead people running the place and they don't know for sure , maybe they could drive over to the next town and try there , no problem here,

Is her home state NY as your profile pin seems to indicate you (AndrewG) are?  If so, this is from the NY DMV site:

NY Vehicle Inspection Exemptions

There are no exemptions for vehicle safety inspections. Some vehicles are exempt from emissions inspections depending on the age or type of the vehicle. Emissions exemptions extend to:

BTW, here in Calif. a car has to be 1975 or older to be smog exempt. Doing the math that is at least 40 years old. In spite of the strict emissions laws here there are actually areas exempt from testing biannually. About a third of the state is only required to test upon change of ownership. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/pdf/Program_Map.pdf About a quarter of the state only requires a stationary (no rolling dyno) test. Unfortunately I live in neither - yet.

Thanks for this info.  Her home state is CO.

BTW - She is receiving a lot of help from your PCCA FB group.  Thanks for all the responses.
