Title: Ebay steering rack?

Anybody know about these?
Price seems awfully cheap.
States it is for 16 inches between mounts, not 15.5. Which is normal, or does it vary by year?
Thanks,
Russ

Just for reference, my 79 Pinto manual rack mounting points measure 16" center to center.  My 86 Mustang and 87 Thunderbird measure 15.5".  To be sure, measure yours.  FYI, Rock Auto has a manual rack for $90 plus shipping.  These are most likely of foreign manufacture.

Another complication is the length of the rack input shaft.  It apparently varies with manufacturer (TRW or Ford).  I do not know how Ford accommodated the different lengths.  Again measure yours to be sure.  See recent thread:

Thanks!
Right now I am just researching what is out there. I had forgotten all about Rockauto, thanks for the reminder.

Unisteer has a dead stock NEW manual gear.  The price is higher than some, it is as advertised.  I bought one in April, and it fit perfectly.
The Pinto, Mustang II have 16 in. on center mounts.  Their new gear will eliminate the middle mount, not a problem. You'll need to go online
to check all the measurements.  Service was excellent.

Could look into rebuilding what you have. Usually under $200

I personally haven't seen one that couldn't be rebuilt for much cheaper provided you can still find parts like end seals and boots. About the only part that would DNF that would be the rack part itself. I've flipped the pinion 180 out to make that part essentially new, the only real wear point is the contact at straight ahead driving.
