Door hinge pins and bushings for 74 wagon
« on: March 02, 2014, 09:22:51 PM »
How many bushings are needed per door for my 74 wagon?

Are there two bushings per door or four bushings per door?

Is it difficult to change them? My passengers side door has to be lifted up while closing it in order for it to latch.

I am looking at Doman part number 38378. It is a pack of four bushings. No pins. Does anyone know the Dorman part number for  the package with the pins AND the bushings?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I have no numbers, I always matched parts by measuring. Two pins and four bushings per door. If the wear is not that bad you can put a jack under back end of door and then take up play only, loosen door hinge and then jack up door slightly to realign door for the play. I've recovered more than one door with no part changing at all and they then latch almost like new. The door drops from weight and looseness in hinge, you simply readjust for that. If not latching though you will be rebushing pretty quick as enough wear has occurred there to make bushing dead or breaking up in pieces.

Is there any type of lubricant that you can use to keep the bushings from wearing?

The problem with trying to lube the pins and bushing is dirt. Those parts are made to wear out slowly. Lubricating them causes dust and what not to cling to them working it's way into the bushing causing premature wear.

I cant find the hinge pins for this car anywhere and it looks like they have to be cut out to replace the bushings. Anyone have a FORD number for the hinge pins that I might be able find at a NOS part dealer ?

The bushings are usually worn much worse than the pins are. Bushing is bronze, pin steel. Powdered graphite the lube to use there.

FYI, I rebuild factory serpentine belt tensioners using same graphite to last at least as long or longer than factory Ford tensioners do.
