I think Im having detonation in my 1978 2.3 4spd. I made a thread on the engine noises a while back. All I did so far was hok up all the air duct things better so its getting fresh air not under hood air. I still get the rattle after it gets hot. The hollow rattle like a marble in a can noise. It starts out with a tick-tick real quick one two times, then next it turns to rattle noise. This occurs after a few miles when its hot outside. Its not a regular ping because its not even spaced like ping noise.
Next I guess I should check the cooling system well, and Im thinking about going to cooler plugs.
Does anyone have experience with checking cleaning the gr valve? Will you please post on this thread exactly what you did how you did it etc. Concerns are getting it apart and back together of course, and how to clean it if its blocked and what has to be done to do it safely (not messing it up or getting carbon bits inside the engine etc)
Already switched from 89 to 91 gas it helps some but its not the cure.
Someone must have been through this.
