Whats involved in de smogging a 1980 2.3 engine
Red 1973 pinto wagon DD, SoCal desert car, Factory 4 speed, 3.40 gears, Stock engine, 14" rims and tires, 60 K original miles

use a early carb and rejet , the later ones had much less cfm flow , remove egr valve and block off , most likey clouged up by now , good exhaust system in order , you can use the tube type manifold off a ford ranger or the cast one off a last of the 2.3 rangers , toss the cats if you can , depends where you live , you can cheat buy removing the whole thing and tow the car to a muffler shop and tell them you want a exhaust put on , last is remove the cat sticker on the door jamb that say it has one , should be good to go

Thanks for the info.

I have a friend who is contemplating buying one and if he does will probably want to clean up the engine compartment.
