Can someone give me the deminsions of the cubbyhole on a 1972 and are they compatable to other years

I am not 100% sure of what you are talking about... can you be a bit more specific? or are you talking about the area under the dash where the floor board hump is in front of the shifter?

Yes it's that little coin holder, cubby hole or little plastic piece under the dash that is just a open holder of some type . I'm sorry I really didn't know the proper verbage for it. Any help would be greatfully appreciated. Thank You

I am not sure if they are all the same however, i would venture to guess they are... i will give the measurements later today when i go out there again. you want the inside or the out side mounting section?
I would also venture to guess some one will beat me to this .... lol

Outside woul be great and inside if possible. I have my 72 in being restored to original and that little cubby hole or catch all or whatever it's is called is the only thing missing from the car and I'm having trouble finding one so I'm trying to figure something out . Any information would be appreciated . Where I am at there aren't any Pintos around that I can go look at and measure to try to come up with something. It's kinda funny looking back at my 1973 Runabout I don't even remember where we used to set our soda !! My 73 has the cubby hole but I put 8 tracks in it and spare change. Just trying to figure out what to do with that blank area. Thank you for any help or idea .

I'm told it's a fire protection device, to protect the trans. and motor from fuel tank.

I measured mine in a 78 runabout. outside from side to side is roughly 9" and inside from inside edge to edge is roughly 7" across.
Have you tried asking in here (General Help) if any one has a set of brackets and the plastic under dash console for sale from their parts cars? I would venture to guess all are the same size. if they are all same size there has to be someone with these parts for sale.

On my 76, I know the brackets are 8" across, because I just folded this up the other day. I have the "cubby hole" that came with it, but it's broken.

There was no cubbyhole in either of my '72 Pintos. Unless I'm mistaken, they became standard equipment on the 1974 models, although there may have been optional ones earlier and I'm sure many have been retrofitted over the years.

Does the original poster have the floor brackets already in the car ?
Has the metal bracket that bolts to that & the bottom of the dash ?

You can see the floor bracket in this picture - spot welded to the hump.

Thank you everyone I really appreciate it. I was wondering if it ever had one because I didn't see any brackets or holes where it looked like one had been . If it were an optional item the I will quit stressing over it. I just wanted everything correct in it . My goal is to just preserve the car as much as possible not only for my satisfaction but for those that have never seen one.

I am not sure when the transition from the map pocket was to the jockey box as I call them. I believe it was sometime in 72 or 73. All three of the 73's I had came with one though. As far as I know, they are basically the same for all the years minus the AC cars or cruising wagons with the heater controls in them.
