Crazy boost??
« on: April 26, 2007, 12:27:08 AM »
I have a friend with a TBird and when we have a controller on and also with the WGA hose off it will spike at 20ish and drop right back down to 10 and stay there. It should be getting full boost all the time wouldnt it?

With the wastegate unhooked it should peg the gauge.
Are you gettin a boost leak anywhere? Check all pressurized manifold connections.
Also be sure the WG is properly closing.

What turbo? The T-3 will handle 20*+ OK where the IHI has issues over 18*.

Load, gearing, flow and other factors will effect the amount of boost an engine can make and sustain.

It is the Garrett so it should handle it ok but it would be nice to be able to hold 17psi all the time. There are no leaks... all new hose with BCS unhooked and bleeder in place. I have the same setup on my Pinto and it works very well holding 17 all day. I am thinking it may be the WGA but it should peg the gauge with the hose off no matter what. The hard thing to figure out is the fact that it goes back down to 10 right after spike.

I had the same problem with my IHI, I was told it was "Boost Creep" and the solution was I had a bad WGA!  :sorry:
