Title: Crankshft thrust bearings for 2.0 engine
Post by: LongTimeFordMan on December 11, 2017, 12:04:13 AM
Hi all..

Well my rebuilt block is complete except for the crankshaft thrust bearings.

The local rebuilder has sourced the main and rod bearings but has not been able to source the thrust bearings.

Ive checked online and there seem to be several sources advertising them but they are advertised to fit 1.6, 2.0 and 2.3 engines.

Does anyone know if there is interchangeabi lity and or of a source. I saw that the turbosport folks seem to have them but Im not sure of the shpping costs or time frame.

The Pinto 2.0 and 2.3 thrust bearings are not interchangeabl e.  The Pinto 2.3 thrust bearings are an integral part of the center main bearing like a small block Ford V8.  The Pinto 2.0 thrust bearings are 4 loose pieces not attached to the main bearing.  Not sure about the Pinto 1600.  Beside the European suppliers, here are a couple links to companies advertising Pinto 2.0 bearings.  Not sure if they still have them and I have had no experience with them.

A note of caution with the Pinto 2.0 thrust bearings, they can be installed backwards.  I did this once and ruined a crank.

One mod I found necessary in the past was replacing the middle cam bearing with one made of bronze oil lite because with cams with over 600 lift the middle bearing would fail big time. Next step was to strap the middle cam tower so the tower would not break off from the head. All of this was necessary with really big hp cams bowing in the middle due to their high lift.

Thanks to the link to pegasis provided by Old kayaker I found the crankshaft thrust bearings and ordered a set.

As far as the camshaft, I'm only going to use a mild street cam, 275 duration, .440 lift and stock springs so i dont think there will be any problems with the cam bearings.

I'm still trying to locate a crankshaft damper pulley and flywheel, but think brian at racer walsh may have them.

Otherwise the new engine will be together after the holidays and possibly in the car in february.
