Ok folks, I need some help here. I have a couple of Cruising Wagons, one of each of the stripe styles. In my quest to restore the first car to reasonably original condition, I need new stripes. These are the three that run across the hood, over the fenders, down the doors and then up and around the port hole windows. I have found a very good custom manufacturer of automotive decals who says he may be able to make the stripe kits. I only need one for my car, but I'll get to that in a minute. Anyway, to properly do his thing he needs to have measurements from an original stripe kit on a car. A previous owner used a grinder to remove the stripes on my car, so I need help. Anyone have a Cruising Wagon with the stripe kit I mentioned that would be willing to get some measurements for me? I have lots of photos of my original car, articles from magazines, photos from online and all that. I even have access to the Ford microfiche (sp.) images, with color descriptions and numbers. But I don't have a car I can measure.

Meanwhile, if I can get the info to him and he decides he can do it, I'm definitely going to buy a set of stripes, maybe two (just in case I need a spare) and I'm willing to bet they could make the other version of stripes as well. How many folks would be interested in getting new stripes for their Cruising Wagons? I know this post may be more appropriate on the other thread, but I had to start somewhere. If someone has a car with the stripes I'm talking about, please e-mail me or pm me and I can tell you what I think it is they need to give this a shot. Or, if anyone actually has the specs that would be great, I've just never seen them myself. Thanks.

Hey FlyerPinto:

Green Sales (1-800-543-4959) has one NOS stripe kit that you are looking for.  The color scheme
is YELLOW, ORANGE , PLUM.  The part number is D7FZ7320000BA.  If you call ask for "DOC" and
I believe it will be around $200-300 for the kit.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

That number looks like the same one the Ford guy gave me, I'll give them a call first thing in the morning. Thanks a bunch!

Maybe your person could use the NOS ones to get all the information for reproducing them? I would imagine it would be much easier with them off the car, and that way they might be able to be a supplier of them. Just a thought....

I was kind of thinking the same thing, take the stripes to the guy and let him work off of them. I bought a set of these when my Pinto was new and had been hit in the door, so I had to buy a complete set. They were pretty pricey back then, a few hundred dollars as I recall. I'd use these if they are any good, but I wonder what shape they will be in, having been rolled up in a box for thirty odd years. I'll let you all know as soon as I found out. Thanks!

Hey FlyerPinto:

I bought a set of the NOS stripes from Green Sales last year that are like the ones on my CW, the
two color blue set.  Yes, they were rolled up in a box, however, they were in very good shape.
The colors (hue) were correct and bright, they had the paper covers on front and
back which were protecting them, the stripes were made from 3M material.  I brought them to use
as a pattern just like you are planning to do.  I believe it is worth the money if you are going to
do the stripes right and like they came from the factory.  Also, they rolled out flat pretty quickly once
you take them out of the box.

I ordered the set this morning from Green. It was a partial set so they only charged $50. I'm not entirely certain which section is missing but I believe it is the portion that crosses the hood. I'll find out when it gets here. Either way, whether it is suitable as a pattern or to be used itself it is a great find. Thanks a bunch for the tip, I wouldn't have expected them to have this on hand. I may still need some measurements, but this will be a tremendous help.

I received the stripe kit and this morning finally laid all the pieces out on the floor to see exactly what I have. There are three pieces here, the "hockey stick" stripes that surround the bubble windows (one for each side) and extend down to the bottom of the window panel, and the liftgate stripes. That's it. I will be going to see my stripe guy and see what he can figure out in the meantime, based on the photos I have of my original car and the stripes themselves. Does anyone have a car with these stripes still on them that they would measure for me? I'll take the hit for paying for the layout and all that for an exact match, so if anyone wanted a new set of stripes we would actually have a source for them that had all the pertinent information in their computer already. If anyone is close by to Dayton, Ohio I'd gladly come by and do the work myself, I'd even sketch the things out on newsprint (like a tombstone rubbing). Thanks for any help.

I have the rubbings from my 77 cruising wagon and the color codes I used. To see how it works look thru the old threads for "the restoration of my 1977 V-6 Cruising Wagon. If interested let me know.

I have the stencils (rubbings of the original stripes) from my car. If you are interested I could borrow them to you for the cost of shipping plus what ever you think it is worth to you. In other words, donations are accepted. :)

They will ship in a cardboard tube from 55060. tube measures 5-1/2" in diameter x approx. 36" long. Follow the process from the Pinto restoration for how to do it. If you have any questions please ask.

P.S. When thru please return them to me.

Yes I received the stencils and they look great. Paint is a ways off. Going to the blaster in a couple weeks and then Fab work. Will be a long process but will be really cool when I'm done. I will keep you posted on progress.
thanks again Dave.
